Social Media Coordinator

About this Role

Help Humanists Australia's voice reach further. As a volunteer Social Media Coordinator, you'll support the day-to-day presence of HA across our social platforms, helping share ideas about living compassionate, ethical, and fulfilling lives without religion with a growing online audience. You'll assist with scheduling posts, engaging with our community, and repurposing content from our live streams, discussion groups, and videos into fresh social media posts, all from home, with flexible hours that fit around your life. Working alongside a warm, collaborative team and reporting to the Social Media Manager, you'll gain real not-for-profit and social media experience, free HA membership, and references to help you land your dream job. Objectives

  • Grow HA's following and engagement across social media platforms

  • Increase consistency and frequency of HA's social media presence

  • Help turn HA's existing content (videos, live streams, discussions) into a steady stream of shareable social posts

Key duties

  • Schedule and publish posts across HA's social media platforms (e.g. Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, X, YouTube)

  • Repurpose long-form content (live streams, discussion group sessions, videos) into social-friendly posts, captions, and short clips

  • Monitor comments and messages, responding to or flagging enquiries as appropriate

  • Track engagement and follower growth, providing basic statistics for team and board reporting

  • Stay across relevant trends, formats, and conversations to suggest timely content ideas

  • Work with the Social Media Manager and Video Editor to plan a consistent content calendar

  • Contribute ideas about content, campaigns, and growth strategies in online discussions with other team members

Skills and qualities required

  • Proactive and self-motivated, comfortable managing an ongoing posting schedule

  • Strong written communication skills, with an eye for tone and audience

  • Familiarity with major social media platforms and their formats (Stories, Reels, Shorts, threads, etc.)

  • Good technical skills. Our technical stack includes Zoom, GSuite (Google Drive and Gmail), and Slack for instant messaging. Training will be provided as required.

  • A laptop, desktop, or smartphone suitable for managing social media accounts

  • A good internet connection
