AI is changing faster than our laws and institutions can keep up, and recent events give us real cause for concern: an OpenAI agent reportedly accessing a Medicare portal beyond its instructions, growing warnings about superintelligence we may not be able to control, and datacentres straining our communities.

We reject both blind optimism and fatalism, and we believe responsible AI can enhance human life when it is guided by human control, accountability, honesty, community voice and international cooperation, principles that echo Humanists International's Luxembourg Declaration.
