Australian Humanist of the Year Bruce Pascoe Award Acceptance Speech
There are still people who don’t like to include Aboriginal people in the life of the nation, except as runners and footballers. People who like to diminish the culture and the civilisation that Australian Aboriginal people had before European invasion. There was an abundance of evidence of the sophistication of this culture that was patently obvious to the explorers and pioneers. We’re still struggling to accept that evidence today.

Humanist of the Year 2021
The Australian Humanist of the Year awards were this year given to Bruce Pascoe, Georgie Stone OAM (Young Australian Humanist of the Year) and Lyndon Storey (Outstanding Humanist Achiever of the Year) in recognition of his outstanding achievements in the Australian Humanist movement.
The online award event is available to watch on the Humanists Australia You Tube channel. Each award recipient spoke for around 10 mins and they are well worth a listen!
Humanists Australia appoint first CEO
The Humanists Australia board are excited to announce that we have employed our first ever Chief Executive (CEO) to convert our HA Vision into reality. Dr Heidi Nicholl has signed up for three years, subject to funding, with the first year already funded thanks to a generous gift from Humanists Victoria specifically for that purpose.
We're sure you'll find Heidi as exciting as we do for this role, and welcome her energy and enthusiasm onto the Humanist Australia team.

Humanists call for the release of Mubarak Bala
On the one-year anniversary of the detention of Mubarak Bala - President of the Humanist Association of Nigeria - a coalition of 86 organisations and concerned individuals across the globe, including Humanists Australia, have published an open letter addressed to the Governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, seeking his immediate release.
